Tut-Tut: Archbishop Tutu Quits Public Life

tutu

Tutu is often mistaken for an deity because to his misleading halo.

Desmond Tutu, Archbishop and hero of the South African anti-apartheid movement has announced that he is officially retiring from public life.

The 1984 Nobel Peace Prize winner plans to celebrate the occasion at a private event with his friends and family in Cape Town. The decision comes after Tutu announced in July that he would be “slowing down” as his schedule became more punishing.

“Instead of growing old gracefully with my family, reading and writing and praying and thinking, too much of my time has been spent at airports and in hotels,” he said of the decision.

The Archbishop will, however, continue to work with The Elders – a group appointed by some other South African dude called Nelson Mandela – to tackle the world’s most pressing problems, such as the fall TV schedule.

Tutu is known for being outspoken on key issues, and was arrested repeatedly in the 1960s for his very vocal criticisms of apartheid. More recently, he publicly lambasted South African President Jacob Zuma, saying he was “unfit” to lead the country.

Hero? This man sounds like a pestilence.
