Britain is ‘Armpit of Europe’

Britain has finally something it excels at: finishing at the bottom of quality of life studies.

unhappy brits

These people are British. No wonder they're so unhappy.

A new survey has named Britain the ‘Worst Place to Live in Europe’ after concluding that Brits pay more for food and fuel than in other European countries, but spend more time at work and less time enjoying good weather. Their wealth is also falling behind, as is public spending on essential services.

Only colony-survivors Ireland fared worse than the British Isles in the survey, conducted by comparison website uSwitch.com, since they have even worse weather, lower public spending and a higher retirement age.

Ann Robinson, the Director of Consumer Policy at uSwitch.com said:

“Last year compared with our European neighbours we were miserable but rich, this year we’re miserable and poor.

“Whereas some countries work to live, UK consumers live to work. In fact we work harder, take less holiday and retire later than most of our European counterparts – but the high cost of living makes this a necessity rather than a choice.”

This is by no means the first time Britain has been declared a heck-hole: last year’s league table of the ten leading European economies – assessed by income, living costs, public spending and working culture – gave Britain ten out of ten. The first 10 being Britain’s position, and the second 10 being the total number of entrants. So in many ways, this is a vast improvement for Britain!

France and Spain topped the quality of life index (again) as their workers get more paid holidays, lower retirement age, longer life expectancy and better weather.
