The televised American cult known as ‘American Idol’ has revealed its new leaders, following the departure of all but one of the prodigious panel.

In a televised news conference, hosted by torchbearer Ryan Seacrest, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and pop singer slash actress Jennifer Lopez were announced as replacements for Kara DioGuardi, Ellen Degeneres and cult founder Simon Cowell.
Only record producer Randy “Daaaawg” Jackson remains of the original line-up.
Mrs Lopez told the audience:
“We’re looking for the next Michael Jackson…It’s such a special year – 10 years – it’s just an amazing thing to be part of. I feel really lucky to be here and I’m really excited to see who we find.”
She’ll undoubtedly also be excited to see her paycheck for the show, reported to be $12m by People Magazine.
Mr Tyler said judging the show was “a great opportunity” and said he wanted to “bring some rock to this rollercoaster”.
American Idol is currently America’s most popular cult, consistently maintaining over 20m followers, although its last season attracted the lowest figures yet, with a paltry 24m watching the final sacrifice episode.
The show will be looking for fresh recruits for its 10th season next year. May Cowell save us all.
